Training Workshop for Fellows on Menstrual Hygiene Management

A very successful 1-day training workshop was organized for project fellows in June 2021. It was mainly on Menstrual Hygiene Management with a session on food and nutrition, as well as career counseling. The nature of the training allowed for ample opportunities for group activities, sharing, and interactions.

An introductory session on the silence and discomfort around menstruation was conducted and linkages were made with shame around women’s bodies and general gender disparity. Later, changes in adolescence were discussed and the topic of menstruation was covered. Unsafe practices and products to manage menstruation were highlighted as well the availability of a variety of products to manage menstruation flow. Safe disposal of used products and hygiene issues were also addressed at the workshop. An important issue related to silence around menstruation is myths and family practices that disrespect girls and women, and the same was addressed through group work and presentations.

The fellows were very receptive to this training and provided very positive feedback for the same. They shared that they did not know about so many issues addressed at the training. Fellows had a suggestion to conduct such training from time to time that will help them in learning a lot of new information.
