OUR LOW COST MODEL COMPRISES FIVE ELEMENTS, LED BY PIONEERING GIRL’S PARLIAMENTS, THAT COMBINE TO LET GIRLS LEARN:
*Build community buy-in
*Strengthen School Management Committees
*Establish Girl’s Parliaments
*Leverage Existing Resources
EGG first conceived our model in 2001 and refines it continually as expansion proceeds and promising results and operational challenges appear. Girls’ Parliaments have emerged as EGG’s crucial innovation.
BUILD COMMUNITY BUY-IN
EGG meets with traditional communities, where education good enough to change lives often seems beyond reach. But seeing they can make a difference, communities can shift.
Communities opt to educate girls, “own” their schools, and make them work
STRENGTHEN SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES (SMCs)
EGG helps communities elect committed SMCs and offers training to improve school management and facilities.
START GIRLS’ PARLIAMENTS
Building community support and stronger SMCs is not enough. EGG’s main innovation is Girls’ Parliaments, to empower girls to improve their own education. Parliaments meet in school, choose leaders, and act. They join with teachers and SMCs. Shattering precedent, girls advocate publicly for education. They promote attendance and learning. They work with police to improve safety.
Girls’ Parliaments are the missing key.
LEVERAGE EXISTING GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES
EGG’s program costs $4 per student per year and helps the whole school system work. EGG strengthens teachers’ motivation and system performance. Gradually Government takes responsibility for EGG’s program.
EGG evaluates carefully, tracking key learning and graduation metrics, and adjusting to help assure success (see IMPACT below).
